13.05-13.35 - Wednesday 5 May
Keynote Address: The Digital Underwriter – A Virtual Journey from Submissions to Portfolio Optimisation

As digital transformation continues to be a hot topic for marine insurance in 2021, this session focuses on the digital tools available to the underwriter and the benefits of adoption. We’ll show how access to the latest digital platforms and specialist underwriting tools is enabling the market to supercharge the role of the underwriter.

Mark will cover a number of areas during the keynote including:

  • Digital submissions: By combining triage with dynamic risk modelling, Underwriters can focus their expertise on complex risk, automate processes for low value, high volume risks and win more business.
  • Pricing and risk selection: Leveraging the latest datasets, AI and machine learning, uncover detailed risk insights and advanced risk models to support data-driven decision making to improve pricing adequacy and overall book health.
  • Prospecting: An independent view of the global fleet and organisational data gives Underwriters the opportunity to seek out new business that fits their risk appetite and any potential to increase the size of the fleet covered within key accounts.
  • Portfolio management and optimisation: With a better understanding of risk driven by a broader dataset Underwriters can improve their capital efficiency. Underwriters can manage their reserves more effectively; reducing reserves based on accurate risk data and using excess to write more business. Leverage large loss models to plan for potential catastrophic events and see how real-time data regarding exposure can help with event response as we delve into a real-life case study to showcase the benefits of improved data for marine insurance.
